The fastest way to make a roomful of horsey teenage girls jealous: poke your head in the lunch room door and go, “WE’RE GOING TO VALLEY TACK!” Watch everyone flip their shit. Repeat anytime you can get someone to drive your forty-five minutes out, where you can stare longingly at all the beautiful saddles and bridles and buckets and show clothes and polo wraps and tall boots and expensive brushes and then get down to finding what you need.

I’ve been riding for two years in insulated rubber boots. Even though they’re built more like a tall boot, they’re still pretty annoying to ride in. A while back, the stage manager at my theater was telling me how her daughter rode at my barn for a while, and said that we should talk when her daughter came later to sew costumes. She asked me to ride her horse, but then she broke her arm, then there was tech week for a play she was in and I was crewing for, and then the summer session started and she came back to my barn to shadow as a pony camp teacher, and we never pulled it together. But we were talking the other day, and she wants me to take a few lessons with her trainer on her horse, and then I could exercise the horse a day a week. Her horse sounds really cute, she’s a seven year old (I think) Morgan who was trained for saddle seat competitions. They’re trying to train her to be more of a hunter horse, I think, though they might be doing dressage (she wants me to talk to the trainer about what they’re doing). Anyways, my birthday’s coming up and so my mom said now was a great time to finally get some better boots to ride in so I look all nice and professional. I finally got paddock boots and half-chaps and a really nice pair of tan breeches and they’re just really awesome!

Also the part where Kanaya was buying the “potions” was so funny in the worst was possible. In a way Homestuck is a lot like Glee. It’s hyperreality, and realistic in ways that media usually isn’t and unrealistic in ways it usually is, and it plays things as jokes but makes them hurt. Looking at them through a certain lense makes them work so well and it’s a lense that doesn’t usually work on other shows and books and comics.
I’ve been rereading ATOG lately, and it always blows me away. The first time I read it, it made me think about the line between fan and fan object, fandom and real life fandom. This time, the way that Kurt worries about endangering the people he loves, about the fact that if something goes wrong he’s not the only one taking a bullet, is standing out. The best stories just mean more and more the more you read them. I’ve always been a rereader for that reason.
I got caught up on Project Runway this weekend. Dom is my fave, she is my Project Runway girlfriend okay. I’m rooting for her, but I wouldn’t be mad if Bradon won either. His proposal was so cute and okay that whole episode was so cute and Dom is so cute and just *flips table* Sandro is such an asshole though but I feel like no one expected him to basically snap.
Also: Orange Is the New Black. I want to watch it sooo bad but a. we don’t have netflixes and b. yeah my parents wouldn’t let me watch it anyways. It looks really good though, and everyone’s hollering about it. Poussey and Taystee rock so hard and I just really want to watch this shooow.
Also I realized the other day that all I want is a scene of Blaine riding a horse. I can see Blaine as the most earnest little kid with little child breeches and chaps and wanting SO HARD to be SO GOOD AT RIDING and then he would be the most earnest barn bum he would always go and give people who show up in the lobby tours instead of just telling them they aren’t allowed back in the barn and be all helpful and wow I kind of want him at my barn but who doesn’t? And Kurt would have the nicest of riding clothes his tack locker would always be SO TIDY his tack would be immaculate he would have such a great pokerface while riding. And he would be helpful in a more pointed way, like Blaine just wants EVERYONE TO LOVE HORSES while Kurt takes someone under his wing and teaches them the ropes (that metaphor got slightly messed up). He’d just be so focused as he’d ride, and no matter how chill he was when hanging around the barn everyone who saw him ride would look at him a little different because he’s got a spine of steel.
He would do dressage and Blaine would be a hunter jumper (or polo maybe fine) and suddenly it would become WEST SIDE STORY sharks vs. jets.


I’ve been trying to figure out how to play “Sburban Jungle” by ear on the piano. Some parts I’ve got and some of them I can almost play, but I’m still lost on most of it. There’s a lot of stuff going on in both hands and a lot of going out of key. Also Homestuck song mashups are the best and there should be more of them.

I’m so nervous about the Sochi Olympics. It’s horrible, because I should be glad that so many people are going to try to stand up and say, this is wrong, but at the same time, it’s something I always watch with my family and listening to my mom say horrible things makes me feel sick, but if I don’t watch, they’ll think something’s up. I’m so fucking done with being in the closet but it’s worse because I don’t know if they’d even bother not saying it if I was out.

Yay horses! And yay shiny new boots! Boo for family making awful comments during the Olympics though. :( I know what that can be like (though in my family it's only one person, thank heavens). *hugs* maybe excuse yourself to go to the loo/get snacks/something when it gets too much and you need a bit of a break? *hugs*

They're pretty great. Although I've only worn them twice and they aren't shiny anymore. xD But what else would I expect from the barn?
I think I plan to have a very serious bladder problem during the Olympics. Very serious.

Ah, the lure of the tack shop. :) Actual boots sound great. I still remember the rubber ones I wore when I was little (ack!).

Congrats on getting a horse to ride! Yay!

Love Project Runway. I was really glad Sandro was gone. Although I would have sent home the jerky guy in that trio instead of the chick that did go home. I kind of like that older guy with the husband and kids.

I'm concerned about the Olympics, too. Although, did you hear what Sweden(?) did when some official was coming to a meeting there? hee! All sorts of 'get your heads out of your ass' art.

I used to wear those really chunky hiking boots with the little heel. It's so cute to see the little kids riding in their ladybug rainboots, but I wouldn't exactly want to wear them now.

I'm really excited. She sounds like a sweetheart and apparently her ground manners are great and she's very friendly.

I know nothing about fashion beyond OH PRETTY and WOW THAT'S A HOT MESS, but Project Runway is pretty awesome. Was that Ken? He was being pretty jerky and he's very cocky with nothing to really show for it. GET IT TOGETHER DUDE. Also Jeremy is the one with kids? I have a hard time with all the names. I bet he'll be in the top five at least.

The rainbow nail art? That was awesome. It's too bad they made her change it. Also the two relay runners (I think) who kissed, though the Russians are trying to say that was "celebratory."

I'm out to my sister and one of best friends at the barn, who's pan. I'm kinda out to another girl from the barn, who I think is bi? I followed her on tumblr and she posted something about it. We're kind of out to each other, I guess. But mostly only two people plus the entire internet, but I don't post under my real name/friend anyone IRL who I'm not out to.

He's my sister's fave, (mine is still Dom) and she literally started screaming when he was first auf'ed. We were both yelling "NOOO" at the tv when everyone was saying goodbye. And then Tim saves the daaaay.
Also the glamping. THE GLAMPING. And Ken freaking out about mosquitoes and ziplines. And the fancy dinners!

I'm not into horses -- my main riding story starts with "my 16 y.o. cousin put me on the back of a horse for a fun ride aorund the paddock" and ends with me half-off the saddle, arms wrapped tightly around the horses neck as we both panicked halfway around and the general terror that resulted -- but I would totally read that.

*winces* That is never fun. Pretty much my worst case scenario, especially when it's a little kid who's doing the slipping. I feel like this is a lot of non-horsey people's first riding experience though. I didn't have a horse run off on me until I was seven and had been riding for at least half-a-year, so I had some idea of what to do.
I feel like this is going to be my next big Glee fic. And it will be so fucking self indulgent that I won't be able to even.

As someone who extended her holiday memories by writing a big story set on a cruise ship, I support a little self-indulgent storytelling. Sometimes, your love of [whatever] really shines through and makes the story feel real.

I think if I do write it, I'll probably write it sometime in the winter, when there's not much going on and I'm not spending as much time there, so I'll miss it less (<3 all my ponies so much).
