Apr. 21st, 2013 06:16 pm Just got back from my barn's *fanfare* annual spring schooling show! Twelve hours yesterday, ten today, and I am about to drop. Oh, to be a normal lesson kid, going in for your class, celebrating your ribbons or lamenting the lack of them, and then going home.
I rode today, and it was kind of rough going in. I was a little freaked out because my horse had freaked out two classes earlier, took off bucking, and dumped their rider off. Plus I was having my usual bout of woe-is-me-I-am-still-a-novice, which happens while I all my friends ride in intermediate or advanced and then look and see that I'm riding against eleven-year-olds. I think people expect me to be better since I'm pretty good at the dirty work of horses, handling them, braiding, all that, but no. I am a novice. I placed first in equitation, though, which was my first class, and since I usually think of my equitation as atrocious, I was really really pleasantly surprised, and apparently my instructor was really happy with my ride, too. In pleasure I didn't do as well, mostly because the arena was really overcrowded and my horse tripped and changed leads JUST AS THE JUDGE WAS LOOKING. I still placed forth, which I was really happy about because I thought I wouldn't place at all. My sister, however (who I luckily did not have to ride against) won novice division champion, so we were all really happy for her.
Basically, great couple of days at the barn hanging out with friends, but I have been living on cookies from the bake sale and can barely stand. I
m going to answer messages as soon as I sleep for several years.
