Wednesday Reading Meme

What I've been reading in my spare time when I should have been sleeping this week, just in fanfic, because I got a big stack of books in the clearance section the other day but have only read one and it's really interesting, so I'm rereading it and then thinking about it. Links are all to ao3, though I know some of these are also on lj/dreamwidth.
Glee
Who Run the World by rainbowrites (Hunger Games crossover, oneshot)
This is terrifying and glowing and glorious, just like Brittany. Santana with her sharpened teeth is the perfect mentor, and the way that Brittany's words spin a persona that people expect from her, sweet and innocent because she's stupid, she wouldn't hurt a fly, and then the perfect ending.
And Miles to Go Before I Sleep by tenaciouscorpse (Multi-chapter, complete)
Noir and lurid and I can see it all playing out in black-and-white with little spots of color like the most non-Hayes Code compliant forties movie ever. Again: it's very dark. Lots of noncon and gore and Kurt is a ghost/angel. People pray to god for protection and it doesn't come. Still, nothing like a good dime-novel detective story and I really liked this one.
Stand at the Edge by misqueue (Pacific Rim crossover, multi-chapter, WIP)
The prologue is the people behind the action, the people who leave me unable to enjoy munching popcorn in summer movie blockbusters because every person on the bridge as it crumbles has a family and a consciousness. Kurt Hummel is sharp and steely and laser focused. It's intense and cathartic and SO GOOD.
Fidelity by wowbright (Multi-chapter, WIP)
This is a Kurt and a Blaine and a Dave who become good friends and it is real and slow and burning and I can feel myself in every one of them. It's life, for better for worse, and shows how they could find friendship and forgiveness and safety in each other.
Homestuck
A Different Kind of Ride by lucyha (multi-chapter, completed)
Okay, so this is totally a high school AU. But it's my first ever in Homestuck fandom. Also since at least fifty percent of Glee fic is in high school without being an AU I feel no shame. I haven't completed this, but so far it's cute and John as a dorky jock is pretty precious and OMG ROSE AND KARKAT IN A WRITERS' CLUB and Dave as the most awkward formerly-coolkid is pretty funny.
The Finer Details of Gay Cluckbeast by clumsyoctopus (multi-chapter, completed)
This is probably one of my favorite Homestuck fics so far. It's funny and makes me snort out loud often and then the next minute I'm going JEGUS FUCK TEARS. Dave's (and John's to a lesser extent) internalized homophobia is sad, and watching them fight it and Rose and Jade and Bec and Bro and Terezi and Karkat and Vriska is hilarious and then angsty. Characterization is spot on and the dialogue is hilarious and perfect to their individual voices--I swear, I kept thinking, THIS HAS TO BE FROM THE COMIC THIS MUST BE HUSSIE HOW IS THIS? Also I love how it's set in ~the real world~ but Sburb still happened and it's still with them, and the trolls send them presents at Christmas.
Teen Wolf
The Space Between by LeTempest (oneshot)
Home by LeTempest (oneshot)
I only read small snippets of them, but already The Space Between felt like a punch to the gut with Boyd/Erica feels and Home made me almost care about Ethan, so now I'm kind of motivated to catch up on Teen Wolf so I can read these.
It's not that I love Teen Wolf. It's just that I love pack dynamics, and Allison and Lydia and Stiles and Scott and Isaac and Erica and Boyd and Mr. Morrell and Danny and just. I don't care about this alpha pack, action is not my thing and I keep getting triggered so it's just a massive amount of energy and just. AND JUST. I don't know what to do about this can you see Teen Wolf and I are having issues.
I feel so organized now wow.
